Met Office forecasters have warned Brits to keep away from the booze as temperatures appear set to reach a record-shattering 33C. But, today and Sunday are also set to be blisteringly hot with the mercury set to rocket past 30C in some parts of the UK. Chief meteorologist Andy Page said the heat would be a welcome change from previously-rainy weekends. He added: “On Saturday and Sunday there’ll be plenty of sunshine, especially in the east, with temperatures rising into the mid to high 20s Celsius for many – it’ll be warmest in south-eastern parts where 31-32C is likely. “Western parts are likely to see more cloud, and a probable cooling trend through the weekend.” The balmy temperatures will be welcome news to revellers heading to the Notting Hill Carnival as well as the numerous festivals over the bank holiday weekend. It is set to smash the 32C expected in Hawaii’s largest city Honolulu. Unfortunately, Brits in north-west England will have to contend with on-and-off showers being predicted. The previous record-breaking August bank holiday scorcher was recorded at Heathrow Airport all the way back in 2001 when the mercury tipped up to 31.5C. But the roasting conditions has led the Met Office to issue a warning to Brits, telling them to ditch the booze. It said: “Stay out of the Sun. Keep your home as cool as possible – shading window and shutting them during the day might help. “Open them when it’s cooler at night. Avoid too much exercise, which can cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke, and watch for signs of heat stress – an early sign is fatigue. “Drink plenty of fluids, but not alcohol, which dehydrates the body. there’s anybody you know, for example, an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do.”
