A schoolgirl was taken out of her GCSE exam only to be then told she has cancer. Hannah Fraser was confused when her dad turned up at Range High School in Formby. The 16-year-old was taken away from the exam hall to meet her dad by the headteacher. She was told “you need to go to hospital, you’ll be okay”. Her dad Duncan took to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where she was told she had cancer. She had complained of feeling tired, but it emerged she had a tumour wrapped around her windpipe. Hannah had visited doctors and complained of exhaustion, being given iron tablets for anaemia. It didn’t work, neither did increasing the dose – and on her third visit to doctors she received a CT scan. Days after doctors found a tumour on the scan, and told Hannah she is suffering from a type of cancer called Hodgkin Lymphoma. The now 17-year-old is now speaking out to raise awareness of the cancer and inspire hope, reports Liverpool Echo. Hannah said: “I was just stood outside the exam room going into my PE exam when my friend said your dad is here. "I tried not to think about it because I was about to do an exam but then I just heard the head teacher walking down the corridor. "She told the exam invigilator I will sort her papers out and she told me I'd be okay but I needed to go to hospital. “When we got there we had to go to ward 3b and when we went in I knew straight away that I had cancer because of all the posters on the hospital wall.” Hannah has had to have her lumps nodes removed, and begun undergoing chemotherapy and taking steroids to fight the illness. She explained the gravity of what was happened to her sunk when she began to lose her hair - waking up with clumps on her pillow. "And another day I woke up and my face was so swollen, that was when it sunk in that this is what I'm going to look like,” she said. "I put on three stone because of the steroids, that was probably the worst thing." Hannah has continued to fight on and decided to carry on taking her GCSEs. Battling through cancer, she managed to get 7 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science. And on October 16, Hannah got a call from Alder Hey telling her that she had completed her treatment – just days before she turned 17. She is now in remission, but will have to undergo checkups for the next five years until she is given the all clear. The 17-year-old also got to attend her school prom during the summer of her treatment, despite initially insisting she "wouldn't go to prom looking like that." Hannah said: “"But by the time of my prom I only had slight bloating on my belly nothing major so I could still fit into my dress and I decided to go in the end. "I wore a wig which I curled and I got my tan and make up done, it was really good." She has also been taken on a number of trips by the charity Rays of Sunshine throughout her illness, including a family trip to Euro Disney, a Take That concert and a trip with other sick teens to meet the Hollyoaks
